the musical baton

passed to me by Irdial Discs, via blogdial. If it hadn't come from there, it wouldn't be here.

total volume of music on my computer:

1068 songs, 2 days 15 hours, 15.08Gb on internal hard drive.

most was removed a while back to make space for new stuff, and is sleeping a while on a more spacious external hard drive

last cd i bought:

it was over a year ago, and was...

chris watson's 'weather report'.

i don't usually buy cds, but this was unavailable on vinyl

song playing right now:

erik satie, l'oevre pour piano

five songs that i play regularly, or that mean a lot to me:

this can vary by the day. as of the middle of may, 2005, i pick the following artists; tracks; albums...

dexy's midnight runners; geno; searching for the young soul rebels

nina simone; it be's that way sometimes; silk and soul

charles mingus; better git it in yo' soul; mingus mingus mingus mingus mingus

bulgarian state radio & television female choir; polegnala e todora; le mystère des voix bulgares

ravi shankar; raga madhukauns; ragas and talas

five people to whom I'm passing the baton:

all of whom love music, and for whom a gentle reminder of the joy of listening is never a bad thing...

a friend in france who has just made the time

a friend in north london who needs to protect his records

a friend in hackney, 9 storeys above the madness

a friend in philadelphia who once was lost, but now is found

a friend in wales without whom none of this would exist

if they can't post their 'batons' themselves', i'll be posting them here as they come round the mountain

the image of music on a sunny morning...
